I just read your post and the good replies to it. I don't know if I have gotten some obscure setting wrong, or if I need a driver update or something. It has no trouble recognizing the UCEC capture device for both video capture and audio capture, but it just doesn't register any signal. The computer I'm using is a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, 6th Gen, running Mint 20.2 Cinnamon. I'm sure that the Hand圜am is sending signal out the earphone jack when something is plugged into it, because the Hand圜am' own speaker stops putting out sound. I also tried a jack called "Audio/Video ID 2", but I think that is the wrong jack. I tried the headphone jack on the camcorder. I used a patch cord with stereo RCA plugs on one end to attach to the UCEC video capture device, and plugged the other end, with a stereo headphone jack, into the camcorder. I got the video to work just fine, but have not been able to capture the sound. I have been trying to use this same UCEC analog video-to-USB device to transfer 8mm camcorder tapes from a Sony Hand圜am camcorder. Amazon is also really good about returns, and this item is fulfilled by Amazon, so there's really no risk here, except for your time. I'm using Fedora 27 with kernel 4.15.3, but it should work with any current version.Īs long as the manufacturer followed the USB spec, they all should really work. It works perfectly with VLC and makes focus and pointing a breeze to do. Most of those cams have an 1/8" video out jack and I plug that into this device with an adapter. I use it to view POE security cameras so I can see the image while I'm setting them up on their mount locations.

Newer kernel versions of Linux have support for these adapters built right in so nothing extra is needed. I got this for Linux use and it works with no added software or drivers needed.

Be sure to use the little USB jumper they include rather than hanging the bulky adapter right off your machine. By John & Carol Mathews on February 27, 2018
